Frequently Asked Questions

A dull knife is a dangerous knife

1. What items can you sharpen?

My customers bring me primarily kitchen cutlery (chef’s knives, serrated bread knives, paring knives).  I am experienced sharpening:

  • Outdoor Tools: Pocket knives, hunting knives, and axes.

  • Lawn & Garden: Lawnmower blades, loppers, and shears.

  • Shop Tools: Chisels and certain wood-turning tools.

  • Got something unusual? Give me a call—I love a challenge!

2. How much does it cost?

I believe in transparent pricing. Most kitchen knives are priced at $10 each for sharpening.  Repairing chips or missing tips will cost a few dollars more. For specialty items like Everyday Carry (EDC) folding knives, saw blades, or other blades that require extra repair work, I provide a quick quote before I start so there are no surprises.

We accept cash or Venmo.  Other payment options may be possible.

3. How long does it take?

For standard drop-offs at my Hallsville location, I typically offer a 24-hour turnaround. If you have a large batch (10+ items) or specialty sharpening/repair/modifications, please contact me in advance so I can ensure a fast return.

4. Do you offer mobile sharpening?

Yes! If you have enough work to justify the travel (usually 10+ items or a commercial kitchen setup), I can bring my sharpening equipment directly to your location. This is perfect for local restaurants or community kitchens. If you have neighbors who could benefit from my services, we can work out a "sharpening party" so I can help them and sharpen your knives for free.

5. My knife has a chip in the blade. Can you fix it?

In most cases, yes. I can remove material past small chips and nicks to give you a fresh, clean edge again. While this may slightly change the profile of the blade, it restores the tool to a fully functional (and safe) state.

6. Where are you located?

I am based in Hallsville, MO. You can drop your items off at my shop, or we can coordinate a pickup if you are in the surrounding area and have a larger order.

For drop-off, the address of my shop is:

9200 E Old HW 124, Hallsville, MO 65255

7. Why should I get my knives professionally sharpened instead of using a home sharpener?

Home "pull-through" sharpeners often shave off too much metal, create an uneven edge that doesn't last, and/or scratch the sides of the knife. I use professional-grade equipment and techniques that respect the steel's temper, ensuring a razor-sharp edge that lasts significantly longer and preserves the life of your tools.
